A photographic archive project with the Mid-Continent Public Library, Midwest Genealogy Center, Kansas City Society for Contemporary Photography and area photographers.
Mid-Continent Public Library and the Kansas City Society for Contemporary Photography are partnering to capture through photography this moment in the lives of communities across the three-county MCPL district.
We are inviting you to be a part of this exciting project we call ‘The Founding’ in connection with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We will meet on Saturday, April 25 with local photographers to outline the project and invite participation.
The goal of the project ‘The Founding’ is to explore through photography, video and oral histories the memories and celebrations of the founding of our nation, towns, communities, neighborhoods, and businesses. This project will seek to include material from all of the towns within the Mid-Continent Public Library three-county district, emphasizing the following topics:
this moment in the development of local communities from a historical perspective
celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
the historical establishment and growth of local townships
celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Jackson County
The material collected will be shared through a new online platform for digital collections, physical exhibits at Midwest Genealogy Center and other MCPL locations, on social media, and in digital and physical exhibits in MCPL branches. All photographers will retain rights to their work and will be properly credited.
To learn about this community archiving project, join us on April 25.
